====== Duet; vl (2); Ges-Dur ====== ===== Introduction ===== Abbé António da Costa (1714-1780?) was a Portuguese musician who, born in the city of Porto, left the country around 1749 for Rome, from where he settled in Vienna, where he is thought to have died around 1780. For more information, please see the three Trios for 3 Violins by the same composer. This may well be the duet for two violins by Abbé Costa that Charles Burney mentions in his travel diary (page 292), which was so difficult //“both in time and style”// that couldn’t be properly played by violinist M. Startzel and himself, after many trials, in a party, after dinner. For an analysis of this duet please see Ciacchi & Dellaborra, 2020.
